Hyundai Motor India Ltd, country’s second largest auto maker on Tuesday officially revealed the all-new Santro small car in India. With the upcoming Santro 2018, the South Korean car maker will be looking to make a comeback in the entry-level hatchback space that is dominated by rivals like Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Tata Tiago, Maruti Celerio and others. The company has already initiated the pre-bookings for the hatchback with an upfront payment of Rs 11,000. However, this booking amount will be applicable to first 50,000 customers only. The new Hyundai Santro will be offered in five trim options – Dlite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. Also, the entry level car will come in 7 exciting colour options - Grey, blue, red, white, beige, silver and green. Dimensionally, the new Hyundai Santro measures 3610mm in length, 1645mm in width, 1560mm in height and 2400mm in wheelbase.
To be offered in 9 variants, the new Hyundai Santro 2018 will be offered in both petrol as well as CNG options. Hyundai’s upcoming offering in the entry level segment will carry typical Hyundai appeal on the inside as well. The car is expected to feature some segment-first features like 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a reverse camera, rear AC vents and much more. Under the hood, the small car will be powered by an updated version of the 1.1-litre Epsilon engine. The company claims that the new petrol mill will make more power and torque than the previous Santro. The petrol mill will produce 69 bhp of max power with 99Nm of power figures and will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT transmission. The small car is claimed to return fuel economy of 20.3 kmpl and 30.5 km/kg.
Once launched in the country, the small car will be pitted against the rivals such as Maruti Celerio, Tata Tiago, Datsun Go+, Maruti WagonR and others in the entry level B-segment of the domestic market. As far as the pricing go, the new Santro could be priced in the bracket of Rs 3.6 Lakh to Rs. 5.3 lakh (ex-showroom).
