Morris Garages India will be launching the eagerly awaited MG Hector premium SUV today in India. The Hector SUV is the first product from MG Motors India which will compete against Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson in the mid-sized SUV segment in India. Morris Garages India finally will be revealing the prices for its first model - Hector SUV in the country. Owned by the Chinese automaker SAIC Motor, the car maker will revealing the prices for the SUV at an launch event in Gurugram. The event is scheduled to commence at 11AM onwards. To be offered in 3 engine options and 2 transmission options, the new MG Hector will be the first mid-size SUV to feature internet connectivity and connected car technology in its segment. The premium SUV will be offered in four variant options, which includes Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. Once launched in India, it will take on against the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass in the mid-sized SUV space.
As far as the features are concerned, the premium offering from MG Motors India will be packed with plenty of features like dual front airbags, antilock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold control, traction control and rear parking sensors as standard. However, the top-of-the-line variant of Hector SUV will come equipped with 6 airbags, panoramic sunroof, 360 degree surround view camera, electrically powered tailgate and much more.
Under the hood, the SUV will be seen with three engine options which includes a 1.5-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel and a mild-hybrid avatar. The petrol mill will be tuned to make 143PS and 250Nm of peak power figures. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual and dual-clutch transmission. On the other hand, the oil burner will produce 170PS of power and 350Nm of peak torque, which will be clubbed with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The mild-hybrid avatar will be offered with a torque boost function that will be mated to a manual transmission.
Though the prices for the MG Hector will be revealed today at the event, we speculate that the premium SUV will be priced from Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level variant and could be priced up to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the likes of the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson.
