Mahindra U321 MPV Officially Named as Mahindra Marazzo; India Launch in September
Mahindra has officially christened U321 MPV as Mahindra Marazzo, which will be offered in 7/8-seater configurations when launched in India.
Mahindra & Mahindra, a famous Indian SUV maker, has finally revealed the name of its upcoming MPV. Called as Marazzo, the MPV derives its name from Basque which is a sub-language of Spanish. Also, the word Marazzo refers to a shark, and the vehicle is claimed to carry shark-inspired design. The Indian car maker is aiming to make a comeback in the Indian MPV space with the upcoming Marazzo. The Marazzo MPV has been spied testing on the Indian roads many times. Moreover, the company has also confirmed that it would be launching three new products in India soon, wherein two products will be launched before Diwali while the remaining one will be slated post-Diwali.
Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, M&M said, "The shark-inspired Marazzo symbolises the next generation of aspirational Mahindra vehicles. A collaborative effort of Pininfarina, Mahindra Design Studio, MNATC and MRV, Marazzo is born of a vision to design a global vehicle with quality and refinement keeping in mind the aspirations of our customers."
Rajan Wadhera, President Automotive Sector, M&M said, "The intense process of development and refinement of the Marazzo is comparable to any global vehicle and incorporates some innovations. This has delivered better space, smoother ride with a quieter cabin, best-in-class cooling, excellent safety and a tough body construction in the Marazzo. In fact, the Marazzo has the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) of any Mahindra vehicle. I am confident that it will set a new benchmark and become a game-changer in its segment".
On the mechanical front, the company hasn't revealed the powertrain details yet. However, the carmaker has confirmed that the MPV will be fitted with all-new engine options. Going by the rumours, it is believed that the Marazzo MPV will be powered by a 1.6-litre diesel as well as petrol units mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Moreover, the MPV will also get an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter, which could be lifted from XUV500.
It is also speculated that the company will launch the MPV in diesel iteration initially, followed by petrol avatar later on. When launched in the country, the Mahindra Marazzo will be pitted against the likes of Tata Hexa and Toyota Innova Crysta.
