Mahindra S201 Compact SUV Production Name & Design Reveal Event Postponed

After launching Alturas G4 flagship SUV in India, Mahindra & Mahindra is now heading towards the extremely popular compact SUV space. The home-grown utility manufacturer was scheduled to reveal the production name as well as design details of the much awaited Mahindra S201 SUV on December 1. However, due to some unavoidable circumstances, the car maker has decided to postpone the event. Moreover, additional details about the same are awaited.

The SUV is expected to make India debut soon, which is likely to be happen around early next year. To be based on a modified Ssangyong Tivoli platform, the SUV is likely to be positioned at the higher end of the compact SUV segment. Mahindra’s compact SUV is likely to sport projector headlights with LED daytime running lamps. Moreover, the top-end version of S201 will be equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, it is believed that the SUV will be equipped with touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, sunroof, auto climate control, push button start-stop and cruise control. Safety-wise, we can expect Mahindra S201 to be packed with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat anchors and reverse parking sensors as standard fitment. Under the hood, the upcoming Mahindra S201 Ssyanong Tivoli-based SUV is likely to be offered in both petrol and diesel guises. The diesel engine will be the same 1.5-litre unit that is already seen on Mahindra Marazzo whereas the petrol mill be a 1.2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The former will develop 121bhp of maximum power against peak torque of 300Nm. The petrol engine is likely to be shared with forthcoming Ford SUV and will be co-developed by Mahindra. Both the engines will be mated to a manual as well as AMT transmissions.

When launched, the SUV will be pitted against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and others in the compact SUV space. As far as the prices are concerned, the new Mahindra S201 SUV will be priced in the bracket of Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
