Mumbai, April 24: Global New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) has released results for the India-made Kia Carens MPV that was crash-tested again to determine its overall safety. The first model crash-tested was produced on May 2, 2023, whereas the second unit was rolled out from the assembly line on December 11, 2023. The results reveal that the older models of Carens MPV (produced on May 2, 2023) scored 0 stars for adult safety. However, the second unit (produced in December 2023) scored a 3-star rating for adult safety. For child safety, the South Korean automaker's MPV received a 4-star rating by scoring 40.92 on the first attempt. With an improved restraint system, the MPV bagged a full 5-star rating for child occupancy protection (COP) by scoring 41 out of 49.
Kia Carens MPV crash tested by Global NCAP:
In the first attempt, the Kia Carens MPV offered poor protection for the driver's neck, marginal protection for the driver's and passenger's knees, and only marginal protection for the driver's chest. The automaker took note of the low score achieved by the MPV in the first attempt and made a few structural changes to the Carens MPV before volunteering for the second attempt.
Enhancing Carens' restraint system, the company made some changes to improve neck performance. In the latest attempt, the Kia Carens scored 22.07 points out of 34 for Adult Occupancy Protection (AOP), whereas the older model received 0 points in the same category.
