New Delhi, August 20: General Motors (GM), the US automobile manufacturing company, reportedly laying off around 1,000 employees. As per reports, the job cuts are said to include positions at GM's different departments to streamline operations and prioritise high investments. As the automaker reportedly faces industry downturns and invests heavily in emerging markets like electric vehicles, GM's layoffs reflect its strategy to focus on quality and innovation.

As per a report of CNBC, General Motors is laying off more than 1,000 salaried employees in its software and services division to streamline its operations. The decision can be seen to simplify the unit's operations, which included leadership changes. As per reports, around 600 employees were affected by the layoffs at GM's tech campus in Warren, Michigan. GM is also laying off around 600 employees at their tech campus near Detroit. The layoffs follow leadership changes. In March, former Apple executive Mike Abbott left the company due to health reasons. According to a report of TechCrunch, GM aims to focus on high-priority initiatives like improving its Super Cruise driver assistance system, enhancing the quality of its infotainment platform and exploring the use of AI.
