Bajaj Auto is looking to revive its iconic 'Chetak' nameplate with the upcoming scooter which could be launched under its premium scooter brand - Bajaj Urbanite.
Though Rajiv Bajaj has been denying Pune-based two-wheeler maker's inclination towards the automatic scooter, new spy shots seem to be saying the other way around. According to the sources, the company seems to introduce the retro-classic automatic scooter under its premium brand - Urbanite, which will be the first electric scooter from Bajaj. We already know that Rajiv Bajaj has ruled out the rumours of a scooter from Bajaj time and again. With new spy images emerging on the internet, the company seems to be exploring the possibilities of reviving the iconic nameplate of Chetak. If the sources are to be believed, the Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer could launch the Chetak E-Scooter under the Urbanite umbrella. Moreover, the sources reveal that the company finalised three names for the forthcoming new scooter which are Chetak, Legend and Stride. With Chetak having the strongest audience connection, it is believed that the company could simply go with the yesteryear's nameplate. Likely to be called as Bajaj Urbanite Chetak, the new electric scooter might be launched in India next year.
The company has already started testing the prototypes of the new E-Scooter in Pune. The sources reveal that Bajaj will be introducing the new Urbanite scooter in petrol and electric variants, as both the versions have been spotted doing rounds. It is believed that Bajaj will soon introduce Urbanite brand by launching the petrol derivative of the scooter, however, the fully electric version could take up to 18 months to reach our market.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the details are under wraps. However, it is speculated that Bajaj is likely to collide with Activa 125 under the 125cc scooter segment. Whereas, the E-Scooter iteration will take on the likes of Ather 450. The company will be eyeing to retrieve classic appeal of the scooter yet making it attractive for the modern audience. The scooter is likely to be equipped with LED DRLs, digital instrument cluster, front disc, USB charger and much more. Expect more details about the new automatic scooter coming out in the near future.
