Mumbai, July 13: The new-generation Suzuki Swift, which retails in India as Maruti Suzuki Swift, has been crash-tested by Euro NCAP. For the uninitiated, the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) is a rating-based safety assessment program that gauges the crashworthiness and safety features of the vehicles sold in European countries. The Europe-spec hatchback has secured a three-star rating in the crash test by scoring 67 per cent for Adult Occupancy Protection (AOP) and 65 per cent for child occupant protection (COP). It also achieved 76 per cent for vulnerable road users.

Regarding the frontal offset impact test, the hatchback provided good head protection for adult occupancy. Still, the chest protection was rated weak for the driver and marginal for the front passenger. Also, leg protection was rated between adequate and marginal. Mahindra XUV700 AX7, AX7 L Top-Spec Variants Get Affordable.

In the full-width barrier test, the car provided marginal protection to the chest of driver and rear passenger. However, the head protection remained good. Chest protection was rated adequate, but the protection during the side pole impact test was good during the side barrier test. Moreover, head protection was shown as good in both tests.

The European Suzuki Swift, made in Japan, differs from the India-spec Maruti Suzuki Swift in terms of features, and the latter misses out on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. The European model tested at Euro NCAP packed safety features like six airbags, seat-belt pre-tensioners and load limiters, and a seat-belt reminder system. BYD ATTO 3 Launched in India.

Maruti Suzuki India packs Swift hatchback with safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, HSA, rear parking sensors, seat-belt reminder, speed alert system, ISOFIX child seat anchorage and more. It remains to be seen if the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be crash-tested by BNCAP in the coming months.
