2018 Toyota Yaris Vs Honda City Vs Hyundai Verna Vs Maruti Ciaz: Price, Features, Specifications Comparison
The all-new 2018 Toyota Yaris is expected to be launched in India on May 18 while the bookings are likely to start by the end of this month.
After revealing the all-new 2018 Toyota Yaris at Auto Expo in February, Toyota is expected to launch the sedan in the domestic market next month, the launch is reportedly believed to be May 18, 2018. The bookings for the new Yaris 2018 are speculated to start by the end of this month, however, some dealers have already started pre-bookings for the sedan with upfront payment of Rs. 50,000. Once launched in the domestic market, the sedan will be positioned below Toyota Corolla Altis in Toyota’s product line-up. With high level of localization, the sedan will see a pretty competitive pricing in compared to its rivals. To proffer more insight about the upcoming Yaris 2018, we pit the sedan against the arch rivals on paper based on features, specifications and pricing.
Dimensions: Starting off on the dimension front, the new Toyota Yaris is slightly smaller in terms of overall length than its rivals featuring length of 4425mm, width of 1730mm and height of 1475mm along with wheelbase and ground clearance of 2550mm and 133mm. However, Honda City measures 4440mm in overall length, 1695mm in width and 1495mm in height along with wheelbase of 2600mm and ground clearance of 165mm. Hyundai Verna, on the other hand, stands at 4440mm in overall length, 1729mm in width, 1485mm in height and 2600mm of wheelbase. The ground clearance of the Verna measures 165mm. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the longest, widest and tallest of the lot with 4490mm, 1730mm and 1485mm of length, width and height respectively.

Interiors: The new Toyota Yaris 2018 is expected to sport feature rich cabin which might include 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit sporting gesture control, a 4.2-inch MID, a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, sleek air-conditioning vents, 7-airbags, ABS, EBS, ESP, Hill-Start Assist and much more. Hyundai Verna is the most feature rich car from the lot which comes loaded with some of the segment first features such as front ventilated seats.
Engine Specifications: Toyota Yaris 2018 will be the only sedan in the lot which will be seen in petrol derivative only unlike its rivals that are offered in both petrol and diesel iterations. The new Yaris is believed to be powered by a 1.5-liter, dual VVT-I, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated motor that can make 108 hp and 140Nm of power figures. On the other hand, the Honda City and Hyundai Verna comes powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.6-litre petrol that can make 119bhp/145Nm and 123bhp/151Nm of power figures respectively. Maruti’s Ciaz is offered with a 1.4-litre petrol motor tuned to make 92bhp of maximum power and 130Nm of peak torque.
Transmission: As far as the transmission duties are concerned, the powertrain option on the new Toyota Yaris is expected to be mated to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed CVT automatic. On the other hand, Honda City and Hyundai Verna comes with 5-speed MT/7-speed CVT and 6-speed MT/6-speed AT respectively. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with 4-speed AT unit.
Price: Having said that Toyota Yaris will carry heavy localization, the sedan is expected to see a competitive price bracket of Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 13 lakh (ex-showroom). If priced under the said price range, the sedan will clearly undercut Honda City which is priced in between Rs. 8.7 lakh to Rs. 13.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Verna 2017 sedan from the house of Hyundai India is available with a price tag of Rs. 9.8 lakh to 12.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Maruti Ciaz is the most affordable sedan in the lot right now which attract buyers with a price bracket of Rs. 7.8 lakh to Rs. 10.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
