With an aim to regain its lost position, Mahindra and Mahindra is all set to launch the refreshed avatar of its popular SUV - Mahindra XUV500 in India today. The new 2018 Mahindra XUV500 will sport not only exterior updates but also feature upgrades along with new powertrain option. The SUV has been spied numerous times in the recent past ahead of its official launch which revealed vital details about the new XUV500. As the competition in the market is intensifying, the homegrown automaker is too gearing up to launch 3 more products in India apart from the refreshed models. The refreshed version of Mahindra XUV500 now gets new radiator grille with chrome inserts which gives a refreshed appeal upfront. The grille is further complemented by new projector headlamps which now gets LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), slightly reworked fog lamps, new tail light design, all-new alloys and much more. It is also speculated that the SUV could be introduced in 2 new colors - Crimson Red and Mystic Copper.
Inside the cabin, the updated Mahindra XUV500 now gets a piano black finish colour scheme which is underlined soft-touch dashboard, leather upholstery and multi-functional steering wheel and more. On the feature front, the new XUV500 comes loaded with Android Auto, Connected Apps, Eco-sense and Emergency call, start-stop button, automatic climate control, dual-front airbags, ABS with EBS, rear parking camera with sensors, panoramic sunroof and hill descent control. Mechanically, the new 2018 Mahindra XUV500 facelift will retain 2.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine which can produce 140 hp of maximum power with peak torque of 320Nm. On the other hand, the diesel variant of the SUV will be fitted with a 2.2-liter mHawk turbocharged unit with two different set of tunes. While, the lower variant fitted with the same engine is likely to produce 140hp/330Nm of power figures, the top-of-the-line model might generate 155hp/360Nm of output. Transmission duties will be carried out by 6-speed manual for diesel units and 6-speed AT on both petrol and diesel variants.
As the new SUV is touted as Plush New XUV500, it will be slightly premium than the outgoing model in terms of pricing. We speculate that it might be priced in the bracket of Rs. 12.5 lakh to 19 lakh (ex-showroom) and will heat up the segment by competing against Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and Tata Hexa.
