After battling for almost 10 months with brain cancer, renowned economist Isher Judge Ahluwalia died on Saturday at the age of 74 years. Isher was suffering from Grade-IV glioblastoma, which is considered to be the toughest of all cancers.

Paytm Back on Google Play Store After Being Pulled Down For Alleged Violation of Gambling Policies
One97 Communications Ltd's payment app Paytm on Friday announced that they are back on Google Play Store for download. Earlier in the day, Google had pulled down Paytm and Paytm First Games for alleged violation of gambling policies. However, its sister apps like Paytm for business, Paytm money, Paytm Mall, and others -- were still available on the Google Play Store.

With the DGFT on Saturday prohibited export of all varieties of onions -- including Bangalore Rose onion and Krishnapuram onions, Bengaluru South Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday wrote to Piyush Goyal. He requested the Union Minister to exempt Bangalore Rose variety of onions from the banned list.

Income Tax Return Filing Update: Finance Ministry Provides 'ITR Filing Compliance Check' Functionality for Commercial Banks to Keep Track of Cash Withdrawals by Non-Filers
The CBDT -- under the Union Finance Ministry -- on issued a circular informing that the department had provided 'ITR filing compliance check' functionality for scheduled commercial banks to check the income tax (IT) return filing status by the non-filers. The new function will enable the government to curb black money.

India's GDP Contracts by 23.9% in Q1 of FY 2020-21
India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter (April-June) Q1 of FY 2020-21 hit a record low of 23.9 per cent, shows the data released by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation's National Statistical Office (NSO) on Monday. In the previous quarter (January-March of FY 2019-20), the GDP figure stood at 3.1 per cent.

CBDT Asks Banks to Refund Charges Collected from Customers After January 1, 2020, on Digital Transactions Through Debit Card, UPI and QR Mode
The CBDT on Sunday issued a circular advising the banks to immediately refund the charges collected from customers after January 1, 2020, on transactions carried out using the electronic modes. The CBDT even advised the banks not to impose charges on any future transactions carried through debit cards, UPI or UPI QR code modes.

The Special OMO of simultaneous purchase and sale of government securities will be conducted in two tranches of Rs 10,000 crore each on August 27, 2020, and September 03, 2020, respectively.

Finance Ministry Disburses Rs 53,248 Crore for 42 Crore Poor People Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package, Here Are All Details
The Union Finance Ministry announced that around 42 crore poor people received financial assistance of Rs 53,248 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP). The Union Ministry informed that this allotment is part of the Rs 1.70 lakh crore PMGKP, under which Centre announced free food grains and cash payment to women and poor senior citizens and farmers.
