The Italian-led research team, who analysed radar data collected by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), made a significant breakthrough. Their findings, published in the journal Nature Astronomy, unveiled the Mare Tranquillitatis pit, the deepest known pit on the Moon, leading to a cave approximately 45 meters wide and up to 80 meters long.
