Kolkata (PTI) Apr 3 (PTI) A city court has sentenced a woman to 10 years of imprisonment in a trafficking case.Special Judge for cases registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Alipore court, Somnath Prasad Sinha, awarded the 10-year jail term to Hasnara Begum yesterday for trafficking two girls from Bangladesh.The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict and asked the District Legal Services Authority to distribute the amount equally among the two victims.The court declared Begum guilty under Indian Penal Code sections 366A (procuration of minor girl), 366B (importation of girl from foreign country), 372 (selling minor for purposes of prostitution), 373 (buying minor for purposes of prostitution) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy).The case dates back to 2012 when the Kolkata Police, acting on a tip-off, had raided a property that was managed by Begum.During the raid, the two minor victims were rescued and Begum was arrested.The court had granted the victims repatriation during the trial. The girls had returned to Bangladesh in 2014.The India chapter of the International Justice Mission (IJM) had also extended support to the girls with a rehabilitation package for two years.
