Los Angeles, Aug 10 (PTI) Director Fede Alvarez has said he wanted a new face to play Lisbeth Salander, the famed Swedish hacker, for his take on Millennium novel series.
Alvarez's "The Girl in the Spider's Web" features "The Crown" star Claire Foy taking on the role of Salander. She succeeds actor Rooney Mara who had portrayed the character in David Fincher's 2011 film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 40-year-old director said that he insisted on new faces for his film as he "didn't like the idea of taking someone else's cast".
"There was a lot of debate — but not with me — mostly debate among the studio, if they (were) taking that route or not," Alvarez said.
"Eventually, I think it was me coming in, saying, I preferred to have my own cast. As a director, I just didn't like the idea of taking someone else's cast. As much as I admired Fincher as a filmmaker I think Rooney Mara is Fincher's Lisbeth, right? And I wanted to find my own," he added.
"The Girl in the Spider's Web", a reboot of Fincher's film, also features Sverrir Gudnason, LaKeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, and Stephen Merchant.
