The police team led by sub-inspector Yogendra had gone to the village last night to arrest Ibrahim who, along with Mubarak, is accused of setting afire the house of his neighbour, Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandradhar Gaur said.
As the police team was taking Ibrahim to the police station, about three dozen villagers started pelting stones at the policemen.
In the melee, Ibrahim managed to flee.
Police have registered a case against six named and over two dozen unnamed villagers for the stone pelting, the police officer said.
