New Delhi [India], Sept 28 (ANI): Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will arrive in India on Sunday to commence his two-day maiden state visit to the country.

President Mirziyoyev, accompanied by his spouse, will pay a visit to Agra on September 30. On October 1, he will be accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, after which he will visit Raj Ghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs read.

During his visit, President Mirziyoyev is slated to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for delegation-level talks at the Hyderabad House. He will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind and attend a presidential banquet.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will call on the Uzbek President.

Relations between India and Uzbekistan have traditionally been close and cordial. Since 2011, the two countries have elevated their relations to the level of 'strategic partnership' encompassing cooperation in a wide spectrum of areas including political, economic, education, health, human resource development, defence, counter-terrorism, science and technology, culture and tourism.

"Exchange of frequent high-level visits on both sides has served to cement bilateral ties. Both India and Uzbekistan have also been closely working together as members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The visit Uzbekistan President will provide an opportunity to discuss bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest and reinforce the strategic partnership which exists between the two countries," the statement added.

In June, Prime Minister Modi had met President Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China's Qingdao. Two months later, Swaraj held bilateral discussions with the Uzbek President during her visit to the Central Asian country. (ANI)
