Mexico City [Mexico], Nov 25(ANI): The White House with the full support of Mexican government has decided to remake a border policy that would require asylum seekers to wait outside the United States border with Mexico while their cases are processed.

Washington Post reported that the plan, known as 'Remain in Mexico', would potentially end the system which US President Donald Trump decries to be "catch and release."

Apart from securing a deeper cooperation with Mexico, the agreement will be breaking with long-standing asylum rules and place a formidable barrier in the path of the asylum seekers from Central America who desperately want to reach the United States in order to escape the poverty and violence in their home countries.

Calling the deal to be a "short-term solution" in an interview to the Washington Post, Mexico's incoming interior minister Olga Sanchez Cordero said, "For now, we have agreed to this policy of Remain in Mexico."

"The medium- and long-term solution is that people don't migrate," Sanchez Cordero added to her statement.

However, no formal agreement has been signed between both the countries as many details are still left for further discussion.

Earlier on November 22, Fox News stated that while talking to reporters in Florida, Trump asserted that if his administration concludes that its southern ally has lost "control" on its side, the borders will be closed.

This comes after thousands of migrants and refugees from Central America have reached the border town of Tijuana seeking asylum in the US.

He further revealed that he has given a nod to thousands of active-duty troops he sent to the border before the November 6 midterm elections to use lethal force against the migrants if needed.(ANI)
