US Hosts GCC+2 Ministerial Meeting

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], Sep 29 (ANI): The United States Secretary of Department of State, Michael R. Pompeo hosted the foreign ministers of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries including Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates at the GCC+2 Ministerial meeting.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the ongoing 73rd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.

Spokesperson Heather Nauert said that Pompeo emphasised the importance of defeating ISIS and other terrorist groups, bringing peace and stability to Syria and Yemen, ensuring a thriving and inclusive Iraq, and stopping Iran's malign activity in the region.

He also thanked the foreign ministers for their partnership with the United States.

All the participants at the GCC+2 Ministerial meeting agreed on the need to confront threats from Iran directed at the region and the United States.

Terming the meeting productive, Nauert asserted that the parties discussed establishing a Middle East Strategic Alliance, anchored by a united GCC, to advance prosperity, security, and stability in the region.

Nauert further said that Pompeo is looking forward to continuing these discussions over the upcoming weeks and months. (ANI)
