Jammu, Jun 21 (PTI) Union minister Jitendra Singh today joined yoga enthusiasts here as the fourth International Yoga Day saw Army, police and paramilitary personnel take part in events across the state to mark the day.
The minister of state in Prime Minister Office was joined by several other district officials who performed different 'asanas' at the K K Hakku stadium here.
The function was organized by the department of AYUSH and witnessed tremendous participation from yoga practitioners, youth, students and elderly people as well.
“Yoga is universally acknowledged as the best treatment for all diseases, and if practiced regularly, it eradicates mental stress and keeps the body, mind and intellect fit,” the union minister said.
Singh said the International Yoga Day aims to raise awareness about the many benefits -- physical, mental and spiritual -- of practicing yoga.
Regular practice of yoga creates mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relieves chronic stress patterns, relaxes the mind and sharpens concentration, he said, adding yoga has revolutionized health management across the world.
An Army spokesman said yoga camps were organised at different military stations and camps across the state.
Led by GOC-in-C northern command Lt Gen Ranbir Singh over 1,000 officers, soldiers and their families took part in a yoga camp at the Udhampur headquarters under the guidance of qualified instructors, he said.
Similar Yoga camps were conducted by other Army units and formations of northern command across the state, he said.
Inspector General of BSF, Jammu frontier, Ram Awtar expressed happiness that many BSF personnel have adopted yoga as a life style and practicing yoga since a long time.
BSF persons and their families participated enthusiastically to commemorate the international yoga day at Paloura headquarters and various units and border outposts from 0700 hours to 0800 hours, a BSF spokesman said.
Police and CRPF also marked the day at their respective headquarters and camps.
Over 1,100 CRPF personnel from various units deployed in Jammu region participated in one of the events at Group Centre Bantalab here, a force spokesman said.
Over 2,000 youth participated in two separate camps in Jammu and Kashmir, organised by state AIDS control society in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Jammu and Srinagar branches, an official said.
A large number of advocates and others also participated in a programme organised by the Jammu High Court Bar Association at the court complex here.
