Tripura: Lakhs Flock to Matabari Temple on Diwali

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, who inaugurated the Diwali Mela, said his government would soon start a plan to turn Tripura Sundari Temple into a major tourist attraction in the country.

Deb said developing the Sundari Temple would develop tourism in Tripura besides a host of industries and businesses, like transportation, hospitality will develop centering around tourism.

Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur is one of the 51 Hindu Shaktipeethas of India. It is considered as one of the holiest Hindu shrines of the country and attracts over two lakh devotees and saints every year on Deepavali.

Many devotees also came to sacrifice animals (mainly goats), which forms an integral part of the puja as well as tribal and non-tribal society.

Several other ministers of the state were present in the fair. Hundreds of sadhus (Hindu saints) gathered for the occasion from the different part of India.

There were adequate security arrangements with two entry and exit points, moreover, an additional number of priests were present to control the gathering of devotees at the temple premises. (ANI)
