Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Nov 14 (ANI): A day after the Congress Party released their first list of 65 candidates for the forthcoming assembly polls in the state, the opposition parties have accused Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy of practicing dynasty politics.

The accusation was leveled after the Congress party announced that in the upcoming elections, N Uttam Kumar Reddy will contest from Huzurnagar constituency while his wife, N. Padmavathi Reddy, has been fielded from Kodad Constituency.

Apart from this, two more tickets have been allotted to senior Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy's brothers from Nalgonda area.

In the wake of the same, few Congress leaders are protesting at Telangana's Gandhi Bhavan for giving tickets to the members of the same family. The workers also criticised Uttam Kumar for allegedly ignoring the party workers who worked at the grassroots level for the state.

Terming the Congress as a "dynastic party", Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said that there is nothing in the party that is in the spirit of democracy in any way.

"Every state unit of the Congress party is the replica of Gandhi-Nehru family at the center. There is no big surprise when we see how tickets are distributed in Telangana. Where can we find that one family rules for five generations, they have made a mockery of Indian democracy," he alleged.

While defending the party's move, TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy told ANI that Uttam Kumar and his wife are both sitting MLAs, and were hence granted tickets to contest.

"The Congress is the most democratic party in the country. In BJP there are only two bosses Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but in the Congress, every small leader is an important person. All the sitting MLAs in the state were allotted tickets," he said.

The state will go to polls on December 7, and results will be announced on December 11.

The 119-member assembly was dissolved on September 6, 2018, on the recommendation of the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government. (ANI)
