Coimbatore, May 4 (PTI) DMK working president M K Stalin today led a demonstration here against the arrest of seven party workers in connection with a protest staged by them during a police raid on an illegal gutka unit in the city.

Addressing the protesters, the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly alleged that "false cases" had been 'foisted' on the DMK workers when they sought a fair probe into the gukta manufacturing unit.

He accused a top district police officer of 'foisting' the cases in a bid to save the ruling AIADMK and a state minister over the multi-crore gutka scam.

Claiming that the time was not far away for DMK to come to power in the state, he said the party government would take action against all those involved in the scam.

Police have registered a case against 10 local DMK leaders, including an MLA, and arrested seven of them on the charge of obstructing officials from carrying out their duty during the raid on the gutka unit here on April 28.

They are on the look out for DMK MLA N Karthik and two others in connection with the case.

The raid came at a time when the state was rocked by the multi-crore gutka scam allegedly involving a Tamil Nadu minister besides a former and a serving top police officials, into which the Madras High Court has ordered a CBI probe.

Earlier, referring to the gutka scam, Stalin told reporters that all those involved in it will definitely go to jail, once the inquiry by CBI in this regard was completed.

Nearly 1,000 workers, including former ministers A Raja Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan and Pongalur Palanisamy, participated in the demonstration.

They also demanded justice in the gutka scam.

Meanwhile, a court here adjourned the anticipatory bail petition filed by MLA Karthik to May 10.

II Additional District Judge M Gunasekaran adjourned the matter after police sought time to respond to the plea.

In another related development, Magistrate C Vediyappan of Sulur court granted conditional bail to all the seven arrested DMK workers.

Allowing their petition, he directed them to sign at the Sulur police station daily at 10 AM.

He also remanded Raghuraman, manager of the gutka manufacturing unit, to three days police custody for interrogation.
