Sen beat Anders Antonsen of Denmark by 24-22, 11-21, 21-14 in a tense match-up that lasted 39 minutes. The Indian mixed doubles duo of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponappa on the other hand lost in their pre-quarters clash to China's Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu by 21-11, 11-21, 11-21 in a match that lasted 36 minutes. The former world champion, Sindhu, pulled out a couple of commanding smashes to reduce the deficit to just one point at 20-19. But An Se Young managed to see out the game and go one up in the match.
