Kolkata, Jun 1 (PTI) Twelve gold biscuits were today found from a bag at border outpost Haridaspur in Bangaon, a senior officer of the Border Security Force (BSF) said.
Acting on information received regarding possible smuggling of gold biscuits, the BSF today laid a trap at BOP Haridaspur of 64 Bn BSF under Sector Kolkata near Bangaon Railway Station, he said.
"Officers tried to stop one person on bicycle when he tried to move towards the Bangaon railway station road. But he managed to escape leaving a nylon bag containing 12 gold biscuits weighing 1399.1 gm," the officer said adding that the market value of the metal seized is Rs 44,15,560.
The gold biscuits have been handed over to Customs authority at Petrapole.
The BSF officer said that since January, South Bengal Frontier BSF has seized 7.751 kgs of gold with a market value of Rs 2,43,26,576 and two smugglers were been arrested in this connection.
