Strasbourg [France], Dec 12 (ANI): A shooter went on a rampage in the heart of the northeastern French city of Strasbourg, killing two people and injuring 10 others on Tuesday.

The shooter opened fire in Rue des Orfevres near the Christmas market in the city, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner was quoted by CNN as saying.

The police said that the shoot who has been identified remains at large. Meanwhile, the wounded have been rushed to a Strasbourg hospital.

In a tweet, the French Interior Ministry urged the people to stay indoors in the wake of the incident.

A spokesperson for Elysee Palace (French presidential residence) said that President Emmanuel Macron is monitoring the incident and has sent the Interior Minister to take stock of the situation. "The President of the republic is being informed in real time of the situation in Strasbourg. He decided accordingly to shorten his current meeting and asked the minister of the interior to go there. He continues to be kept informed of developments," the spokesperson said.
