New Delhi, Oct 11 (PTI) A 26-year-old suspected robber-cum-auto lifter, who used to come here from Haryana's Jhajjar district to commit thefts, was arrested from Najafgarh Bijwasan road, police said on Thursday.
The accused was identified as Srikant alias Arjun.
A team was formed after the police received a tip off about a robber, the police said.
The team saw a man coming on a motorcycle from Issapur Khera cut on Najafgarh Bijwasan road. Police asked him to stop but he tried to flee. He was nabbed after a brief chase, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Devender Arya said.
During investigation, it was found that the motorcycle had been stolen from Baba Haridas Nagar area here.
The accused told police that he is a resident Jhajjar's Mundakhera village.
He was a milk supplier there but since he could not earn much, so he started selling illicit liquor at the Haryana-Delhi border. He could not carry on for long due to the police pressure, Arya said.
Srikant stole two motorcycles and procured a country-made pistol to commit robberies in Delhi and make easy money. He would run away to his native village after committing robberies, he said.
He used to identify targets on lonely roads and streets and kept the weapon to threaten in case he would get caught, he added.
The DGP said a country-made weapon along with two live cartridges and two stolen motorcycles have been recovered from Srikant's possession.
