New Delhi, Oct 15 (PTI) Rani Jhansi Grade separator, the ambitious flyover project in north Delhi which had missed several deadlines, will be thrown open to public on Tuesday by Union minister Harsh Vardhan.

North Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta had last week inspected the flyover and said it would be commissioned on October 16.

The 1.6-km-long flyover, near St Stephen's Hospital to Filmistan Cinema, was originally scheduled to be completed by 2010.

"The grade separator will be inaugurated Tuesday by Union Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Varhan in the presence of Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and others," a senior NDMC official said Monday.

The ambitious project will ease the traffic flow between ISBT Kashmere Gate and Karol Bagh.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) had earlier said the project would be completed by November 30.

Its commissioning will help in improving the overall traffic movement in this part of central Delhi, Gupta said.

Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel, Lt Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal, BJP national vice president Shyam Jaju and its Delhi president Manoj Tiwari are slated to attend the event.

"We had faced lot of challenges in construction of this separator, but we kept working on the project and finally it is ready for citizens. A free flow of traffic would help in reducing pollution and save fuel as well," the North Delhi mayor added.
