Paramaribo [Suriname], June 20 (ANI): President Ram Nath Kovind and first lady Savita Kovind, who are on a three-nation visit, arrived in Suriname on Tuesday night (local time).

On arrival, they paid tribute at the statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi in Paramaribo, the capital city of the South American country.

President is scheduled to meet and hold discussions with his Surinamese counterpart Desire Delano Bouterse. He will also be holding official level talks in the country.

A number of agreements and MoUs in the areas of health and medicine, elections, IT and Ayurveda are slated to be signed.

President Kovind is on a nine-day tour to Greece, Suriname and Cuba.

Prior to this, the visiting president was in Athens where he met Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and other senior members of the Government.

President Kovind said India is the world's fastest-growing economy and is projected to become a five trillion US dollar economy by 2025.

He addressed the India - Greek Business Forum meeting in the Greek capital and urged Greek shipping, agriculture, food processing, tourism, infrastructure, technology, defence and start-up companies to invest in India.

He also touched upon other opportunities to collaborate in defence manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, tourism, real-estate, entertainment, infrastructure and technology sectors.

On June 21, the president will arrive in Cuba, where he is scheduled to hold discussions with his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz - Canel Bermudez.

A number of MoUs and Agreements in the areas of Biotechnology, Homeopathy and traditional system of medicine and medicinal plants are expected to be inked during the visit. (ANI)
