Berhampur (Odisha), Apr 26 (PTI) Police today claimed to have busted a gang allegedly involved in betting during IPL cricket matches with the arrest of seven persons in Odisha's Ganjam district.
The seven gang members were picked up from an electronics shop at Aska, 40-km from here, said Inspector In-Charge of Aska police station, Santosh Kumar Jena.
He said around Rs 10,9,800 in cash, 14 mobile phones, some notebooks and calculators used for betting were seized from the accused persons.
Acting on a tip off, a police team raided the shop where the gang was operating, he said adding the accused persons were betting on every ball, wicket, run and also game of the match.
Police said the main bookies were outside the state and operating the online betting from major towns like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
It was second gang busted by the police in Ganjam district in last 15 days. Police had earlier busted a gang from Bada Bazara area in Berhampur town on April 13 and arrested three persons.
