Puri, (Odisha) [India], Oct 9 (ANI): In the run-up to 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup slated to be held in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha government department of sports and youth services launched the official mascot, named 'Olly' at the Puri sea beach in Odisha, on Tuesday. The World Cup trophy was also launched along with the mascot.
The mascot was seen doing the rounds near the beach, riding a jet ski, wooing the onlookers. Later, he unmounted the ski and came to the beach to meet officials of the sports department and kick-start the unveiling ceremony.
The 2018 Hockey World Cup, is scheduled to be held from November 28 to December 16. India has been able to lay hands on the trophy just once in 1975.
After former Hockey skipper Sardara Singh hanged his boots last month, the onus to lead the side has come on the shoulders of experienced goalkeeper PR Sreejesh.
Recently, the Indian hockey team failed to deliver up to the mark performance at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and came back with a bronze.
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier announced that his government will collaborate with music director AR Rahman and lyricist Gulzar for composing the title song of the marquee event. (ANI)
