New York [U.S.A.], Oct 25 (ANI): New York Police Commissioner James P O'Neill on Wednesday said that they were investigating the package found at the CNN office while vowing to bring those responsible to justice.
The Police Commissioner further said that package sent to CNN contained a live explosive and envelope with white powder. "The officers identified the device that appeared to be a live explosive device. NYPD bomb squad secured the device and removed it for investigation," O'Neill said at a press conference.
"We're investigating that right now. We found no additional threats besides the white powder. NYPD is currently deploying resources around the city," he added.
Meanwhile, New York Mayor Bill De Blassio termed the incident as an "act of terror" and said, "This act is an attempt to undermine the free press and the leaders of the US through acts of violence.
"The people of New York won't be intimidated," Blassio asserted.
The suspicious package was found at the Time Warner Center where CNN is based, following which the building was evacuated. The building reopened in the afternoon for investigation.
"The NYPD has concluded its security sweep, and it is now safe to return to the building. I so appreciate your patience, as I know what a long day this has been for all of you," wrote CNN President Jeff Zucker in a mail to all its employees, reported CNN. (ANI)
