NY Attorney General Resigns Following Sexual Assault Allegations
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned on Monday night, following the release of a report giving a detailed account of his sexual misconduct.
New York [USA], May 8 (ANI): New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned on Monday night, following the release of a report giving a detailed account of his sexual misconduct.
As reported by the Hill, Schneiderman released a statement saying, "Serious allegations, which I strongly contest, have been made against me."
"While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct ... they will effectively prevent me from leading the office's work at this critical time", he added.
New Yorker on Monday published claims made by four women of Schneiderman physically abusing them.
Two of the victims had said that Schneiderman hit them without their permission in the bedroom often under the influence of alcohol.
They did not report the incident to the police though they later went for a medical help.
Accused Schneiderman had threatened the victims to kill them in case the latter complained against him.
Another woman had accused him of slapping her when she rebuffed her sexual advances.
Post the report, Schneiderman denied charges of sexual assault against him.
He said, " In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity. I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross."
Further New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand also called on the accused democrat leader to resign.
A state legislature will be appointed as his successor and his full-time replacement will be determined in the next general elections.
Son of United States President Donald Trump and also a member of Trump administration, Donald Trump Jr. took to his Twitter to account to mock Schneiderman who had earlier criticised another sexual assault accused Harvey Weinstein and praised The New Yorker and New York Times for revealing the latter's history of sexual misconduct.
"This didn't age well", Trump Jr. tweeted. (ANI)
