New Delhi [India], Apr. 11 (ANI): Aiming to contribute towards economic and sustainable development of communities, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to provide skill training to 500 youth and women at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu.
The skill development project will be executed by NSDC through its approved training partners near Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), the single largest nuclear power station in India, situated in the Tirunelveli district of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Under this tripartite agreement between NSDC, NSDF and NPCIL; NSDC will conduct a baseline survey in 19 villages in Tirunelveli district to examine nature and extent of talent gap and will accordingly identify job roles for the training.
The skill development project aims to provide gainful employment (wage and self-employment) to nearly 70 percent of the trained candidates post-training. NPCIL has committed Rs. 1.74 crore under its CSR contributions towards this project, which is estimated to be complete in 15 months.
"NSDC's Industry Partnerships and CSR Wing has been working collaboratively with various public-sector undertakings and private sector corporates to leverage their CSR funds towards the Skill India which is a nation-building mission. Initiatives such as these, not only bring positive changes in the lives of underserved, but also help in capacity building of the local communities and improve economic performance of the regions, thereby reducing the rural-to-urban migration," said NSDC executive director and CEO, Jayant Krishna.
Upon successful completion of the training, the trainee will receive a certificate which conforms to National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), a competency-based framework for skills. The program will also embed soft skills and digital modules. NSDC will ensure quality training and management of the structured skill development program, while NPCIL will monitor the progress of the implementation of the project to ensure that the objective of the project is met effectively.
