London [UK], Nov 24 (ANI): French footballer N'Golo Kante has extended his stay with Chelsea as he signed a new five-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old, who joined the club in 2016, has been one of the most consistent performers of the club attracting offers from teams like Paris Saint-Germain.

Talking about the new contract, the midfielder said that he is happy to prolong his stay with the club as he completely improved as a player during a two-year stay with the team.

"I'm happy to extend my time with Chelsea, it has been two beautiful years and I wish for more to come. Since I came, I completely improved as a player, challenged myself and got some awards I never thought about. I like the city, I like the club and I am happy to be here for more time," Chelsea official website quoted Kante, as saying.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia also expressed delight over the development and said that they are looking forward to five more years with the footballer at the heart of the Chelsea midfield.

"We are delighted N'Golo has signed a new contract and sees his long-term future with Chelsea. When he arrived, we knew we had signed a special player but he has astounded everybody with his tireless and unselfish displays," Granovskaia said.

"Off the pitch, he remains a dedicated professional and a humble human being despite the fact he is a world champion and a two-time Premier League winner. We now look forward to five more years with N'Golo at the heart of the Chelsea midfield," the director added.

Kante made his Chelsea debut in the 2016-17 season, producing a memorable midfield performance as they beat West Ham United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Overall, he has made 100 appearances for the club winning several individual awards including Chelsea's Player of the Year in 2016-17 and Chelsea's Player of the Year in 2017-18. He was also named Premier League Player of the Year in 2016-17. (ANI)
