Mumbai, Apr 12 (PTI) Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule today questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The government on one hand says Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and on the other hand stays mute on the Kathua rape case, indirectly shielding the culprits of the heinous act. Mere hypocrisy. How can Hon. @NarendraModi Ji stay silent on this?" Sule tweeted.
She said that she was "extremely disturbed" that "right wing ideologues" were "justifying the rape".
"The worst part is right wing ideologues close to the government justifying the rape. Extremely Disturbed," Sule, the Lok Sabha MP from Baramati, said.
Attacking Modi on his fasts during the nine days of Navratri, Sule asked, "If you hold these fasts from your heart, why do you not take the initiative to give justice to the minor?"
The body of the eight-year-old, belonging to the nomadic Bakherwal community, was found in Rassana forest on January 17, a week after she went missing while grazing horses in the forest area.
On January 23, the government had handed over the case to the crime branch of the state police which formed a Special Investigation Team and arrested eight people.
