Raipur, May 3 (PTI) Six vehicles and machines engaged in road construction work were set ablaze by suspected Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said today.

The incident took place late last night in Pusugudi village under Modakpal police station limits where a road is being constructed under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), a local police official told PTI.

Around half a dozen ultras, dressed as civilians, reached the village, located around 450km from the state capital Raipur, and torched four tractors, one JCB machine and a road roller at the site belonging to a private construction firm, he said.

Naxals also left behind pamphlets in which they admitted to have lost eight of their colleagues in an encounter with security forces in Ipenta forests of Bijapur last week, the official said.

He said the company had not sought security at the construction site from the local administration.

On getting information about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt for the Naxals, he said.

On April 27, eight Naxals, including six women, were gunned down in an encounter in Ipenta forests of Bijapur district. The operation was carried out jointly by the Chhattisgarh Police and their Telangana counterparts.
