Mumbai, Jun 22 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman domestic help and her fiance have been arrested in connection with the murder of an octogenarian couple in suburban Khar, police said.

Nanak Makhijani (86) and his wife Daya (84) were found dead at their apartment in the Ekta Delight building on the night of June 20.

They had been strangulated with a dupatta and smothered by a pillow.

The unidentified killers were found to have stolen cash and gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from the house.

Police suspected that Makhijanis' domestic help Parvati Kishor Khaka could be involved in the crime, and alerted Railway police in case she tried to take a train out of Mumbai, said a police official.

After getting a tip-off that she was heading for Odisha, her native state, with a man by the Gitanjali Express, both were nabbed at the Nagpur Railway Station with the help of the Government Railway Police.

Police recovered cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh from the duo.

Parvati and her fiance Singhsan Mukut Ekka (26) confessed to the crime, the official said.

Parvati, who had found out where the couple kept cash and jewellery, called Ekka to the apartment on the night of June 20, and the duo allegedly killed the couple by tying them up and strangulating them, the official said.

A court today remanded them in police custody till June 26, he said, adding that further probe was on.
