New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) The condition of four of the 17 children injured in a milk tanker-school van collision near the Kanhaiya Nagar metro station yesterday is critical, the police said today.

They are in the ICU of AIIMS.

The driver of the milk tanker, Sanjeev (38), who has been arrested, told the police that he had consumed liquor at a wedding around 2 am.

The police had said the alcohol content in his blood was found to be 195mg/100ml.

He lost control of the vehicle as he was drunk, and the milk tanker rammed into the school van coming from the wrong side, said a senior police officer.

The driver of the school van had his earphones on at the time of the incident, the police had said yesterday.

The officer said the four students, who are in the ICU at AIIMS, suffered multiple fractures in the accident that claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl and injured 17 other students.

Four children have been discharged and nine are undergoing treatment, but are out of danger.

The city government had yesterday ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

The school van was carrying 18 children who were to be dropped at two schools in Keshav Puram -- Kendriya Vidyalaya and Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, No 1.

It was hit by the other vehicle while taking a turn.
