New Delhi, May 16 (PTI) A 32-year-old man who allegedly 'purchased' stolen cars from Delhi and neighbouring areas and later sold them after changing their chassis numbers has been arrested, police said today.
The accused, Jishan Qureshi alias Pawaa, had sold or dismantled one thousands cars in the last three years, they said.
Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of police (Crime), said Quershi was arrested from Dwarka on Monday.
Qureshi was allegedly involved in 25 criminal cases of auto-theft and tampering of engine and chassis numbers of vehicles in Delhi, Meerut, Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad, and was declared a proclaimed offender by different courts in four cases of Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad.
"Qureshi used to purchase stolen cars from several auto-lifter gangs active in Delhi and thousands of stolen cars were either dismantled by him or sold to another notorious receiver of Meerut, after keeping his commission, who used to further supply them in other parts of India," a police official said.
