New Delhi, May 25 (PTI) The Delhi Police has arrested a man accused of being a major distributor of marijuana in the city and seized 270.4 kg of the contraband from his vehicle.
The Inter-border Gangs Investigation Squad (IGIS) of the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police arrested Dharamveer Kumar (28) from Dichao Depot in southwest Delhi and seized the huge cache of marijuana from his vehicle.
The arrest was made after the team received a secret information that a distributor of ganja would come near the Dichao depot in a Mahindra Champion vehicle.
"The Crime Branch team laid a trap near expected place of his arrival and the accused was successfully apprehended," police said.
It said that his interrogation revealed that he belonged to a lower middle class family residing in Patna, Bihar.
Due to financial constraints, he had come to Delhi in 2012 in search of livelihood and started working as a waiter in different banquet halls and farmhouses in and around Dwarka, police said.
During this period, he came in contact with one Naresh, hailing from Bihar, who was allegedly involved in supply of ganja at a large scale to several drug peddlers in the national capital region.
"Lured by the huge income and profits in this illegal trade, accused Dharamveer started working as a distributor of ganja for Naresh," police said.
It said that Naresh taught him the basic lessons of this illegal trade and Dharamveer was involved in this for the last three to four years.
This was the first time he was arrested, police said, adding that the accused earned a hefty margin of Rs 300 to Rs 400 per kg.
