Kolkata, May 7 (PTI) The West Bengal Congress today slammed the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state, describing its supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as "an agent of the BJP" with her idea of a federal front.
"Mamata Banerjee is working as an agent of the BJP in national politics with her federal front idea, which in turn will weaken the opposition against the ruling BJP at the Centre," Congress MP and WBPCC president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said at a 'Meet-The-Press' event here.
Banerjee is also playing the role of a "promoter of the saffron party" to "negate the Opposition Congress and the Left parties," Chowdhury alleged and added that during her rule, hundreds of RSS 'shakhas' were opened and thriving in Bengal.
Citing her political equation with the BJP in the past, he said, "The TMC has turned into a 'B' team of the BJP, as the political DNA of both the parties is same."
Chowdhury branded the CM as an "opportunistic leader" and said she could not be trusted as an anti-BJP voice.
"She allied with the BJP when she found it convenient. When she felt the Congress was beneficial, she took help of Congress. She is an opportunistic leader.
"We have not heard her voice against the BJP since long. Her rhetoric against the BJP has turned entirely in the wake of the 'Narada' and 'Sarada' scams. If she thinks she will gain more benefit by allying with BJP, she will do it again," he said.
Chowdhury condemned the chief minister for the role of her government in the upcoming panchayat election. "Banerjee has turned the panchayat election as well as democracy and people's constitutional rights into a farce."
The state Congress chief demanded that the panchayat polls should be conducted under the supervision of the Calcutta High Court to make it free, fair and peaceful.
"The ruling TMC has unleashed a reign of terror to eliminate the Opposition parties and win the elections by all means," he said, while describing TMC's victory in 34 per cent seats uncontested in the panchayat polls.
