Kannur(Ker), May 10 (PTI) BJP and ruling CPI-M leaders today participated in a "peace committee meeting" here and extended their full support to the efforts taken by the district administration to bring peace in the politically volatile district.
CPI-M and BJP leaders offered every support to the actions taken by the administration to prevent violent incidents from recurring in the district, District Information Officer Padmanabhan said when contacted over phone.
They also promised to give directions to the rank and file to keep vigil in preventing recurrence of political violence in the district, he said.
For the CPI-M, its state committee member K P Sahadevan, Thalassery MLA Shamseer, Kannur district scretariat member M Surendran and Thalasserfy Area Secretary M C Pavithran took part in the meeting.
BJP's Kannur District President P Sathyaprakash and RSS functionaries P K Jayarajan and K Promod, besides others, also participated in the meeting which was convened by the district collector Meer Mohammed Ali at the collectorate.
Kannur district police chief Siva Vikram and other officials also participated.
A local CPI(M) leader Babu was hacked to death on Monday night at Palloor in Mahe, an enclave of Union Territory of Puducherry, and in an apparent retaliatory attack, a BJP worker was killed within half an hour at new Mahe in Thalassery in Kannur district.PTI KV BN
