Many unknown and unwritten historical facts are being lost due to modernisation, Khandu said and called upon the youths to take up research works and document such historical facts which have been orally passed down through generations.
Addressing a book release programme in the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) near here, the chief minister said the state government is ready to fund such endeavours through the agencies agencies and research wing of the university.
He released 'The Nyinu Massacre' written by Nepha Wangsa, a scholar of the RGU, for taking the pains to go into oral history of the 1875 massacre that took place in a remote village in Longding district inhabited by the Wancho tribe.
'The Nyinu Massacre' is about the resistance of the local people against an advancing British troops in 1875.
"We have so many tribes residing in the state. I am sure there would be many unaccounted past events with historical significance, which are not known to the world due to lack of research and proper documentation," he said.
Khandu admitted that he never heard of the Nyinu Massacre till he got to know about the book release.
Wangsa, a native of Longding, said he had heard the story of the massacre during his childhood.
He said his research that spanned over five years took him to places like Sivsagar and Kolkata in search of documented proofs.
