Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 23 (ANI): Ambassador Raychelle Omamo, Cabinet Secretary for Defence (Defence Minister), Kenya, accompanied by a high level military delegation on Friday visited Headquarters, Western Naval Command.

During the visit, the Cabinet Secretary interacted with Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief and other senior officers of the Western Naval Command. Issues related to mutual interest including maritime security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region, boosting defence cooperation, and enhancing training interaction were also discussed.

India is training Kenyan naval personnel both in the country and in Kenya. Indian Navy and Kenyan Navy have also undertaken joint hydrographic survey of Kenya coast. Both navies are committed towards ensuring maritime security in the northern Arabian Sea. The current visit by the Cabinet Secretary is expected to further strengthen the existing defence cooperation between the two countries.

The Defence Minister also had an interaction with a few women officers and with the delegation, visited guided missile destroyer of the western fleet 'INS Kolkata' and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. (ANI)
