Karnal, Dec 30 (PTI) Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar Sunday said Karnal's repaired, strengthened sewerage system will end the problem of rain water stagnation in the city.

"The work of expanding the Mughal Canal will also be completed soon and to remedy the problem of water stagnation in the canal a treatment plant near Ganjogadi village will be set up soon," the chief minister said.

Speaking at a function organised here by textile traders and social workers, Khattar said the Western Bypass will be dedicated to the people of Karnal on January 5. He said all roads connecting to the city are being upgraded and expanded.

The chief minister said he strives for Karnal's all-round development.

Earlier, the Karnal legislator addressed a function at MDU, Rohtak. He said the state government's new sports policy encourages the youth of the state to take up sports as a number of cash prizes and jobs have been provisioned for.

He said Haryana has emerged as the hub of sports in country because of the new policy.

Khattar said the youth of the nation will play a decisive role in society and nation building and accordingly they must be nurtured.       Calling for greater participation in sports, the chief minister said the BJP government has awarded Rs 242 crore as cash prize to 8,363 outstanding sports persons in the last four years. As many as 17 sportspersons in the state have been appointed as coaches and soon 45 more would be appointed for the same, he said.

On the occasion, the chief minister felicitated eminent sportspersons -- Jitender Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Omveer, Dharmender Dalal, Sanjay Singh, Manjeet Chillar, Pritam Thakran, Mamta Kharab, Sumita Malhan, Ram Mehar Singh and Amit Panghal and Olympian hockey player Ashok Kumar, son of legendary late Dhyan Chand.
