Hyderabad, Jun 12 (PTI) The over Rs 80,000 crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project, a flagship scheme of the TRS government aimed at supplying water to one crore acre of farmland in Telangana, will be inaugurated on June 21.

The project across River Godavari, which flows through the states of Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, aims at meeting requirements of drinking water (about 80 per cent of the districts in the state), the farm sector and industries.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has consented to be the chief guest at the event in response to an invitation from his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao, a release from Rao's office said Wednesday.

"CM has spoken with Devendra Fadnavis over telephone on Wednesday. Devendra Fadnavis accepted the invitation of CM KCR and expressed his consent to attend for the inauguration of the project," it said.

Rao would visit Mumbai soon to personally invite Fadnavis, it said.

A CMO release issued earlier in the day said Rao has decided to invite Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy also as chief guest.

Official sources indicated that both Reddy and Fadnavis would be present at the event.

The TRS supremo has attended the swearing in ceremony of Jagan Mohan Reddy as chief minister last month after the spectacular victory of the latter's YSR Congress in the assembly elections.

Rao has earlier said the lift irrigation project would certainly "bring in a new life for the farmers."

The foundation stone for the Kaleshwaram irrigation project, taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 80,500 crore, was laid on May 2, 2016 by Rao.
