Islamabad [Pakistan], August 22 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed the cricket body's election commissioner, Justice (retd) Syed Afzal Haider as the interim chairman.
Haider, who is responsible for the conducting of elections for the new PCB chairman, would inform the procedure and schedule of the poll to the cricket body's Board of Governors (BoG) on August 24.
The new interim PCB chairman was quoted by the Express Tribune as saying, "As per the constitution of PCB, in case the chairman's post is vacant, the chief election commissioner takes charge of board affairs. On Friday, August 24, the board members will be informed about the imminent changes in PCB and once they confirm their availability, the schedule for elections will be announced."
The election commissioner is to hold the elections for the new chairman of the cricket body within four weeks, according to the PCB constitution.
On Monday, Najam Sethi resigned as PCB chairman. The newly sworn-in Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan tweeted that he appointed former International Cricket Council (ICC) president Ehsan Mani as Sethi's replacement.
"I have appointed Ehsan Mani as Chairman PCB. He brings vast and valuable experience to the job. He represented PCB in the ICC; was Treasurer ICC for three years and then headed the ICC for another three years. We will follow the set procedure which entails my nominating him on the PCB Board of Governors. He may then contest elections for the position of Chairman PCB," Khan wrote on the micro-blogging site.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Sethi wished the PCB for its future endeavours. He also expressed hope that the Pakistan cricket team goes from strength to strength. (ANI)
