New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) India and the UK share a very close cultural bond which is displayed time and again through exchange of ideas and a shared vision, British Digital and Culture Secretary Matt Hancock said today.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition 'India & the World-A History in Nine Stories', Hancock said the spirit of collaboration and close bonding between the UK and India could be seen in the exhibition.

The exhibition showcased some of the objects and works of art from the Indian subcontinent, along with iconic pieces from the British Museum collection.

Hancock said the exhibition"displays the work of two thriving nations working side by side to do something truly special".

Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma, who inaugurated the exhibition along with Hancock, said the culture of the two countries was a binding force.

"When we talk of countries like India having 1.25 billion people, we see that every 50 km or 100 km the language, religion, customs changing but the thing that binds us is culture.

"We are proud to be part of the rich heritage and culture. The bond between India and the UK is a matter of pride for both nations," Sharma said.

The exhibition was organised by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalya (CSMVS) in collaboration with the British Museum and the National Museum in New Delhi.

The exhibition was part of the 'UK-India Year of Culture' which was launched last year by Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who represented the Indian government at the historic event.

Hancock is visiting India to launch regional alliances under the UK-India Tech Partnership, which is expected to pave the way for a raft of new deals bringing jobs and investment to both countries.
