Gurugram, Oct 25 (PTI) A 46-year-old woman allegedly hanged herself at her house at a housing society in Sector-51 here, police said on Tuesday, with her family member's alleging that she was killed over dowry.

On October 22, a private hospital informed the Sector-50 police station that a dead woman had been brought to the facility and she had died due to hanging, they said.

The case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 304B (whoever commits dowry death shall be punished with imprisonment) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), police said, adding that she had married Shailesh Vikram Singh, a resident Nirvana Country housing society, on June 20, 2017.

The woman had returned to Nirvana Country from her maternal house on October 22, according to police.

While her mother-in-law and husband have alleged suicide, her brother has accused them of killing her over dowry, they said.

Station House Officer Sector-50 Inspector Rajesh Kumar said based on the complaint, "we have registered an FIR".

"We are verifying the facts and action will be taken as per the law. The main accused and husband of the deceased is reportedly the CEO of a Delhi-based private company," the officer said.

In his complaint, Aakash Chauhan said, "My sister was not happy as they (in-laws) were demanding Rs 20 lakh cash and a Fortuner car."

"Due to this, she had come to our home. Her husband brought her (back to Nirvana Country) citing Diwali but killed her," he said.

Police said the matter is being investigated and no one has been arrested yet.
