North 24 Parganas, April 26: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition including foreign-made pistols and revolvers during searches in Sandeshkhali.
The recovery was made during searches carried out by the CBI teams in connection with a case related to violence against the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) officials.
During the searches three foreign-made revolvers, one Indian revolver, one Colt Official Police revolver, one foreign-made pistol and one country-made pistol, sources from the CBI said. Further, 120 9 mm bullets, 50 .45 calibre cartridges, 120 9 mm calibre cartridges, 50 .380 cartridges and eight .32 cartridges were found, they added. According to sources, several incriminating documents related to former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan have also been recovered. Some items suspected to be country-made bombs have also been recovered which are being handled and disposed of by the teams from the National Security Guard (NSG), they added. Earlier in the day, a bomb squad team of the National Security Guard (NSG) arrived at Agarhati village in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali. Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted multiple raids in West Bengal on Friday in connection with the Sandeshkhali case. Earlier the CBI on Thursday registered an FIR against five people and unknown others in connection with the ongoing probe into cases concerning land grabs and crimes against women (sexual) in Sandeshkhali.

The Calcutta High Court had intervened, instructing the CBI to take over the investigation into several alleged offences in the Sandeshkhali region. These offences reportedly include illegal land acquisitions and instances of violence and sexual assault against women.
